Although Project Success Drug Education is
now in its 15th year of existence, many people, new to the
Red Oak area, do not know what Project Success is all about.
This is why the Project Success Parents Committee, in
cooperation with Allen J. Oliver Productions, has completed
a promotional/informational video that explains the many
activities and goals of Project Success.
The video, which is used to recruit new corporate sponsors,
is ready and available at ROISDPD. Mr. Oliver has worked
hard on this project to help the drug free students of Red
Oak ISD. We feel this program impacts the students of our
district and we hope to share this impact with many more in
the future. As many of you know, Project Success, is a
homegrown program, not a government funded program.
This program was developed during the 1990-91 school year.
At that time, then Chief Charles Sullins of Red Oak PD, and
then Superintendent of Schools John Sullivan, came together
and allowed Officer Lindsey to develop a teaching curriculum
that would place Lindsey in the classroom once a week. The
program began as a 5th and 7th grade program, but was later
changed to a 5th grade only weekly program due to the
increase in class sizes. Throughout the years the program
has grown to involve much more than just a once a week 5th
grade program. Project Success now touches the lives of
students K-12 in Red Oak Schools. In recent years we have
added “HADDIT” (Hawks Against Destructive
Decisions-Inspiring Teens) at Red Oak High School and Red
Oak Jr. High. At Red Oak Intermediate “ADDIT” (Adolescence
Against Destructive Decisions Influencing Tomorrow) was
started.
Project Success supports these student organizations
financially and with adult supervision.
Officers of ROISDPD are very involved in all Project
Success/ HADDIT programs. Chief Scott Lindsey is the
Coordinator of these programs. Cpl Byron Hopkins, who is the
lead instructor of the 5th grade program, and assisted by
Sgt. Williams, who is the sponsor for the HADDIT and ADDIT
programs, assists
Chief Lindsey.
The video production will allow us to show our sponsors and
future sponsors just what their donations will do for
students. We have always been fortunate to have great
sponsorship from our community, but it is the hope of the
parents committee that this video will help us reach more
sponsors, which will in turn allow us to give even more to
our students. The organization has given over $40,000 in
scholarships over the past 5 years, and it is our hope that
we can raise this amount even more in the coming years.
