Red Oak Elementary Chess Club!
Jimmie “Bud” Davis helps Donika Dominguez and Christian Samuels, members of the 2nd Grade Red Oak Elementary Chess Club, learn the basic skills to play chess at a recent meeting. Bridget McPeek and Sikyra Castle get pointers from Gifted and Talented teacher, Sharon Harle, at the 2nd Grade Red Oak Elementary Chess Club meeting.
The chess sets were purchased last year through a grant from the ROISD Education Foundation. The grant was written by the ROISD Gifted and Talented teachers for the chess sets as enrichment learning skills that will help the students through out their life. Jimmie “Bud” Davis, helps members of the 2nd Grade Red Oak Elementary Chess Club learn how to play chess. Mr. Davis is helping them learn the names of the pieces and legal moves to make on the board.
The Chess Club was created by a grant written last year by the Gifted and Talented teachers for all interested students as enrichment learning skills and principles that can be used through their life time. Second grade students Jasmin Cruz, Sydney Sonnier and Brett Davis, concentrate hard while learning how to play chess during the second meeting of the 2nd Grade Red Oak Elementary Chess Club meeting.
